Turning houses into homes

Welcome to Homes by Hayden

I’m so glad you’re here. I’m Hayden, an Indianapolis interior designer and artist on a mission to make beautiful homes accessible for everyone.

We spend 62% of our waking hours inside our homes. Shouldn’t those hours be spent in a space you feel good in? I know this sounds simple, but it’s easy to neglect the impact our home has on our overall wellbeing– and I’ve experienced this firsthand. I’ve felt the anxiety of a cluttered space, the anger of a physically challenging layout, and the uneasiness of a house that didn’t feel like home.

I started Homes by Hayden to help clients of all backgrounds overcome these obstacles and create spaces that work for them.

Clients of Homes by Hayden are promised an individualized approach that considers their physical, mental, and financial needs. This means that unique styles are celebrated, accommodations are met, and budgets are respected. My goal is to keep you in the driver’s seat and guide you along the way.

I was introduced to interior design while working at a local home goods boutique in Cincinnati. There, I shadowed our lead designer and learned the fundamentals of interior design. I was given larger and larger staging projects within the store, until even found myself designing and constructing custom pieces of furniture. It was around this time that I fell in love with design. As a design apprentice, I helped design and stage local Cincinnati homes and businesses.

My Start

In 2020, my family and I picked up our things and moved to Indianapolis. I was eager to find my place in the Indy interior design scene. After meeting with local shops and firms, I found myself at 2 Chicks and a Hammer where I worked as a buyer and designer.

The Big Move

Shortly after joining Two Chicks and a Hammer, I moved to their residential design team where I lead client consultations and designed properties featured on HGTV’s Good Bones. I had the opportunity to stage small and large houses, collaborate with unique clients, and work within budgets of all sizes. After 2 seasons, I left Two Chicks and a Hammer to start Homes by Hayden. As owner and lead designer, I’m excited to combine my 5 years of interior design experience with my passion for helping others and giving back to the community.

Full Time Design

My Process

Perhaps the most important step, I kick-off every project by getting to know you. Clients can expect an in-depth interview where I can learn all about their needs, challenges, expectations, and preferences. When possible, this is when I like to visit the physical property.

Getting to know you

After gathering as much information as possible, I begin to plan. I start with a desired mood, ie. how YOU want to feel, and put ideas on paper for how to accomplish this. Clients can expect a detailed mood-board and an abridged buying guide for principle pieces or features.

Setting the mood

Here’s where we meet again. Mood boards and buying guides are then presented to the client for a detailed discussion. Clients are encouraged to share their honest feedback so we can work towards their desired outcomes. At this stage, we’ll decide how much needs revised and how quickly we can move forward.

Seeking alignment

Once we’ve aligned on mood boards and top-level plans, we’ll work to create a detailed project plan and timeline. Here I may connect with contractors and builders to implement our design plans with their build schedules and lead times.

Planning, planning, planning

This is when the magic really happens. In this stage, we begin buying the pieces that will transform your home. We’ll work together to determine the easiest and most cost-effective purchasing plan, and once items arrive, we’ll work with contracts to have them installed. For furniture and decor items, I provide optional staging services.

Purchasing and installation

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. In this final stage, clients can finally experience the home of their dreams. After soaking in the new space, I’ll follow up to see how the space is accommodating you and if any future work is needed.

Soaking in the new space

Not everyone wants, or needs, a full design-build approach, and that’s okay! I offer one-off consultative services for those looking for quick advice, design ideas, or project explorations.
